A Closer Look at my Modalities

Shiatsu is a healing and health maintenance form of energy based bodywork. Developed in Japan, it Is based on the older Chinese system of acupuncture. The main difference is the use of the human hand as opposed to needles. Working with a system of meridians or channels in the body through which energy or chi passes, shiatsu opens up the flow of chi in these channels. The unimpeded flow brings balance to the body. Whether dealing with stress, chronic conditions, or recently developed symptoms, this work helps to bring a more balanced, centered, grounded state of being.
Craniosacral therapy, and integrated craniosacral unwinding, address the craniosacral system. This is a core system in the body that involves the cerebrospinal fluid, which surrounds the brain and the spinal cord. This fluid is produced in the brain and has a rhythm similar, but much more subtle, than the respiration and heart rate. Restrictions in this rhythm can produce various symptoms. Using light touch, the practitioner opens those restrictions in the rhythm, and thereby helps to bring the body to a more relaxed, balanced and healthful state.
Both shiatsu and craniosacral therapy are effective treatments for many conditions, chronic illnesses and stressful life situations. Providing a strong sense of support, these therapies can help you achieve a deeply relaxed state, a healthier body and a better outlook on life. This has been my experience both as a receiver and a practitioner.
In Western society we tend to think of seeing a practitioner only when we are symptomatic. However, bodywork or energy work can help you maintain your health just as with proper exercise and nutrition. Releasing the everyday stress that we hold in our bodies is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Bodywork not only helps the physical body, it also helps emotional and mental states as well.
This type of therapy should not be considered as alternative therapy; instead it is complementary to traditional Western medicine. These complementary therapies can be very helpful along with traditional medical treatments. They can mitigate the side effects of treatments and medications that are prescribed for various conditions and illnesses. They can also help the body to more effectively make use of whatever medications are being used. In addition, these complementary techniques can help speed recovery, and provide support with many health issues.
